Mayumi Muratake is a certified image consultant, color specialist and designer at M Style New York,  a color and style consulting and scarf design firm located in New York City.

Mayumi was born in Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from Sacred Heart Junior High School and High School in Tokyo. She studied English at Digby Steward College (now the University of Roehampton), then moved to the U.S. to pursue her studies. She graduated from Hunter College, City University of New York, where she received a B.A. in Studio Art (with concentrations in Printmaking and Oil Painting).  After graduating, she worked in different fields. including publishing and finance.

Then she launched her career in textiles at Itochu New York’s Textile Division, where she began her specialization in textile printing, product development and brand management.  Through her experience at Itochu, she has worked with various fabrics, including specialty laminated fabric for outdoor use.  She has a strong knowledge not only of fabrics but also of weaving, fabric dyeing and fabric printing.

After working for Itochu for over ten years, Mayumi decided to continue her studies of fashion and colors, which have been her passion since she was a child. She studied Image Consulting and Color at Fashion Institute of Technology and received certificates in both concentrations.

As she was learning about image consulting and colors, she became fascinated by the power of color and realized that color can affect people’s moods and impressions. She also realized that -- although many of us tend to wear black or neutral colors because we do not know which colors truly suit us --each of us has a different skin tone, contrasts and bone structure, and these elements have a strong impact on our personal colors and styling.

Eager to share her joy in fashion, Mayumi founded Be-you style with the hope of providing customers with detailed color and body analysis and helping them find their own color palette and personal style.

In addition to color and style consultation, with her strong knowledge of printing, she has designed her own scarf collection.  Her scarves are designed based on a four- season color palette, which can be identified by color analysis.

She is fluent in Japanese and English.  And she is currently studying Mandarin.
